HUTCHINSON, Kan. — District Judge Trish Rose decided Friday that a special hearing was needed to decide whether the trial for a Hutchinson man accused of murder should be continued.

Brennan Trass is accused in the shooting death of 24-year-old Jose Morales, who was found on the floor of a residence back on Aug. 17, 2015, with multiple gunshot wounds.

As it stands now, the trial is scheduled to begin on April 9, but Trass’ attorney, Sam Kepfield, wants more time to prepare. Meanwhile, Trass objected to any delay and complained that all the continuances were being counted against him and not the state.

Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton told the judge he worries there may be a conflict with Kepfield representing Trass.

Judge Rose decided to set a hearing regarding all the issues for next week. However, no specific date or time has been announced.
