HUTCHINSON, Kan. — District Judge Joe McCarville announced Wednesday morning that he’s filing to run for another four-year term as District Judge in Division III of the Reno County District Court.

He explained in a news release that he has enjoyed the challenges of the position and valued the trust of the people in Reno County. That trust allowed him to make decisions that resolved disputes and contributed to the safety of all citizens.

Judge McCarville helped start the Reno County Drug Court, a specialty or problem-solving court, that brings together professionals from law, law enforcement, community corrections, substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment and other helping professionals. This is an effort to provide life skills in a highly-structured program to help individuals with a high risk of re-offending. It also helps those who fail probation, or have a hard-to-treat addiction, build a new life of accountability and sobriety.

McCarville also enjoys being assigned the docket for civil protection orders and being able to provide help to people accused of — or victims of — violence.
