Judge Rose sets new trial date in Hutch murder case

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — District Judge Trish Rose set a new trial date Wednesday in the case against Brennan Trass.

Trass is accused of shooting and killing 24-year-old Jose Morales, who was found on the floor of a residence back on Aug. 17, 2015.

Judge Rose continued the trial to allow Trass’ new attorney, Kevin Loeffler, to be brought up to speed on the case. The judge set a tentative date of July 23. She also set a new motion deadline of June 1.

The pro se motion — where Trass is asking the court to dismiss the charge over speedy trial issues — was continued until May 24 at 8:30 a.m.

Trass objected to any delay. He complained that all the continuances were being counted against him and not the state. In the motion, he noted all the continuances in the nearly three-year-old case have violated his rights.
