TOPEKA – A Junction City man who was injured in a shooting incident in April has been indicted on federal firearms charges.

25-year-old Michael Anthony Washington of Junction City, is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition after a felony conviction.

In counts one and two, it is alleged that on April 6, 2012, Washington possessed a Kel-Tec brand Model Sub 2000 9 mm semi-automatic rifle and ammunition. At the time, Washington was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition because of prior felony convictions. He was convicted on a felony charge of possession of cocaine in a case filed in Geary County District Court in 2006, and on a federal charge of unlawful possession of a firearm filed in 2008 in U.S. District Court in Kansas.

On April 6, 2012, Junction City Police were called to a report of shots fired in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Washington went to the Geary Community Hospital emergency room with gunshot injuries.

The third count alleges Washington unlawfully possessed a .22 caliber pistol on July 25, 2012.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000.
