HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One of the four suspects in two home invasion cases from last year was found “guilty” of all charges Thursday after the jury deliberated through part of the lunch hour.

Dakota Anderson is now convicted of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of aggravated robbery, one count of aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated burglary.

The two home invasions occurring in the 3600 block of Rockwood Dr. and the other in the 3400 block of North Waldron, the first occurring on May 4 and the second on May 14.

The jury got the case after closing arguments from the two sides. Senior Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell started out by recapping what happened to the two victims and recapping the evidence pointing to Anderson as being involved with both including the fact that they found items from the two robberies at his residence.

The defense noted that there was no forensic evidence showing that Anderson was involved in the case and that others had access to the home he lived in. Attorney Donald Snapp also told the jury that the suspects girlfriend agreed to testify, but was harassed by police to give a statement or face having her kids taken away. Snapp had asked her that during cross examination Wednesday, but the state then came back and asked if everything she told the jury with her direct testimony is the truth and she told, “yes.”

Maxwell also noted what a co-defendant, Brandon Jones testified to as to what they did the night he was with Anderson and Leffel.

One of the other suspects saw his sentence increased when he refused to testify at the trial Wednesday. Jordan Leffel was called as states witness, but refused to cooperate, so Judge Tim Chambers found him in contempt of court and added six months to his sentence in the case which consisted of nineteen and half years in prison.

With the guilty verdict, Judge Tim Chambers set a special setting for sentencing on May 6 at 1:30 p.m.
