HUTCHINSON, Kan. — District Judge Trish Rose decided Friday that the trial for a Hutchinson man accused of murder should be continued for a couple of reasons.

She recently assigned a new attorney to the case against Brennan Trass, accused of shooting and killing 24-year-old Jose Morales, who was found on the floor of a residence back on Aug. 17, 2015, with multiple gunshot wounds.

Judge Rose assigned Wichita attorney Kevin Loeffler to represent Trass in the case. Loeffler needs time to review case details.

Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton also noted that the defendant filed a pro se motion, asking that the case be dismissed over speedy trial issues. Judge Rose agreed a hearing should be set over that motion.

Trass objected to any delay and complained that all the continuances were being counted against him and not the state. In the motion, he noted all the continuances in the nearly three-year-old case. The trial was scheduled to begin April 9.

Judge Rose will set a trial date once she makes a ruling on the motion’s arguments.
