SALINA, Kan. — A forgery investigation in Salina led to an arrest for shoplifting, drugs and aggravated child endangerment.

Salina Police Capt. Chris Trocheck said Derek Weltmer, 42, was arrested Saturday afternoon after being stopped for shoplifting at the Salina Wal-Mart.

During a check of Weltmer’s vehicle, police found stolen property, along with small amounts of marijuana and meth, and drug paraphernalia.

A 5-year-old boy who was with Weltmer during the arrest was placed into protective custody.

Police also reported they had been working on a case since October involving Weltmer allegedly stealing checks from a family member.
