Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt Wednesday announced three Hutchinson-based organizations have been awarded grants totaling $105,000 for victims service programs.

The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center, Inc. was awarded a $50,500 grant to operate a child exchange and visitation center. The organization was also awarded a $37,000 grant to provide emergency shelter and support services to victims of domestic/sexual violence.

Horizons Mental Health Center was awarded a $5,500 grant to provide a prevention and intervention curriculum program at the first- or second-grade level and at the fourth-grade level, as well as inservice and parent meetings for adults.

Visions of Hope, Inc., Reno County CASA was awarded a $12,000 grant to provide screened, trained and certified volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children involved in the juvenile court system due to abuse.

“The work of our victims service organizations throughout the state ensures that services are available to crime victims in their hour of need,” Schmidt said. “We are proud to support the work of these organizations through the victims services grant programs in our office.”

The grants were awarded from the State Child Exchange and Visitation Centers Fund, the Protection from Abuse Fund, the State Crime Victims Assistance Fund for Child Abuse and Neglect, and the State Crime Victims Assistance Fund. The victim services grant programs are funded by state general fund, marriage license fees, district court fines, penalties and forfeitures, county court costs and municipal court assessments.

This year, the Attorney General’s Office awarded more than $2 million in grants to local and state crime victim assistance organizations.
