Kansas Disciples Youth Convention To Gather Donations For Reno County Food Bank

Food-Bank

The 2013 Kansas Disciples Youth Convention will be held at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center November 8-10. This convention is a denominational event sponsored by the Christian Church in Kansas (Disciples of Christ). Approximately 400 middle and senior high school students along with their sponsors will attend this statewide gathering. During this event participants will hear five messages that God calls us into a deeper life of discipleship.

The convention’s key note speaker will be Geoff Brewster. Brewster is a native of Oklahoma and a graduate of Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, where he is currently serving as Stewardship Director. The youth will be lead in worship by denominational worship leader, Travis McKee and the youth band, “Ironic Outcome” from First Christian Church in Atchison. Local Christian music artists Steven Rousey and Josh Lightsey will inspire the youth during a Friday evening “late night” session on November 8. On Saturday a number of workshops will be provided to enhance the young people’s faith growth development.

All members of this convention will participate in a CITY WIDE food drive as they will canvass neighborhoods around Hutchinson to gather non-perishable items for the Reno County Food Bank on Saturday, November 9. Hutchinson residents can support these efforts by leaving sacks of food on their porch for easy pick up. The donations will be gathered on the west side of Hutchinson from 10am-11:30am, and the east side from 3:00-4:30pm. Hutchinson residents may also bring food items to the Ramada Hotel, as the food bank truck will be on-site.
