TOPEKA, Kan. — A bill that will allow the Kansas State Fair to keep sales tax money collected on the fairgrounds in Hutchinson overwhelmingly passed the Kansas House Saturday afternoon.

The bill passed with just 2 votes against it on final action.

However, there was an amendment added in committee to sunset the sales tax money. If retained, that clause would end the proposed sales tax agreement in 2028.

The House voted 117 to 2 for the state fair bill after the Kansas Senate passed the bill earlier. It now heads to Gov. Jeff Colyer’s desk for his signature. If signed, it would become law on July 1.
