TOPEKA (AP) – A proposal before the Kansas Senate would allow liquor stores owners to let customers taste some products before buying them.

Several liquor marketing associations pushed for the bill because of problems that arose when some retailers began offering tastings near their liquor stores.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the state in August said samplings could not be held in or near the stores.

If approved, individual portions for tastings would be limited to one-half ounce for distilled spirits, one ounce for wine and two ounces for beer or malt beverage.

The chairmen of the House and Senate committees likely to handle the bill told the Capital-Journal they don’t see many problems with allowing the tastings.
