Kansas State Fair is underway; opening ceremonies set for this evening

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 106th great Kansas get-together is underway. Sunny and warm weather greeted those who wanted to make it an early morning at the Kansas State Fair.

Judging is already underway for various exhibits and entries, and the carnival midway opened at 3 p.m.

Something different this year is the time of the opening ceremony. The ceremony had been held in the morning, but has been moved to 5:30 p.m. to allow more to attend.

Also today, the draft and miniature horse parade is at 5 p.m. at the expo center. The reenactment of the Medicine Lodge peace treaty is at 6 p.m. at the Bretz and Young Arena. A new event this year is the talking tombstones train tour aboard the state fair train starting at 8:30 this evening.

Tonight’s grandstand entertainment is Bobby Bones along with local talent Nicolle Galyon starting at 7:30 p.m.
