SALINA – The Fine Arts department at Kansas Wesleyan University announces a solo exhibition featuring Salina, KS, artist Katherine Kitchen. The exhibition, titled Internal Dialogue, will be shown in the Gallery in Sam’s Hall of Fine Arts on Kansas Wesleyan’s campus. The show will be up from January 11- February 17 and the gallery will be open to visitors Monday-Friday, 9 am – 9pm. This show is open to all ages and audiences, and admission is free.

There will also be an informal gallery talk with Katherine Kitchen about her work on January 17, 2012 at noon. While snacks and drinks will be offered, guests are encouraged to bring a brown-bag lunch.

Created specifically for this exhibition, Kitchen’s work reveals rich textures and “the beauty in the ugly,” inspired by objects and environments lost and abandoned. Each piece offers the opportunity for contemplation and interaction. “I have tried to have my artwork evolve from photos on a wall to an installation that forces the viewer to move around each piece in order to get the full experience,” says Kitchen.

“I am extremely excited to have Katherine Kitchen’s work in the gallery at Kansas Wesleyan University,” said Gallery Director Ann Marie Morris. “Her work is rich in its storytelling and relates to universal feeling we all have about how we navigate our internal and external worlds.”

Katherine Kitchen’s photographic works are layered images that deftly narrate expressions of the artist’s past experiences as well as her personal and public identities. “[This body of work] represents the struggle I have in who I represent myself to be in society compared to the person that I really am. It represents the internal dialogue that we all have with ourselves and the little secrets and feelings that most of us don’t let others hear or see.”
