Hutchinson Community College freshman forward Kirea Rogers averaged nearly 19 points per game and shot just shy of 90 percent for the week and was named the Jayhawk Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Rogers, a 6-foot freshman from Wichita, had a strong week in leading the No. 8 Blue Dragons to a pair of victories. She averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 3.0 blocked in wins over the Southwestern JV and Independence.

Rogers shot 88.2 percent for the week, hitting 15 of 17 shots.

Against Southwestern, Rogers had 20 points on 9 of 10 shooting and a career-best seven steals. She was 6 of 7 shooting in a 17-point, seven-rebound performance against Independence. She also had a career-best four blocked shots and three steals.

Rogers ranks in Jayhawk Conference’s top 5 in scoring, FG percentage and rebounding.

Rogers is the second Blue Dragon to earn conference Player of the Week honors this season, joining Inja Butina, who won the honor in the opening week of the season.

Rogers is now eligible for NJCAA Player of the Week honors. That award will be announced on Wednesday.
