LAWRENCE – Kansas travels to Manhattan for the first of two editions of the Dillons Sunflower Showdown against in-state rival Kansas State Wednesday at 6 p.m. The match will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
KU enters the match winning two of its last three matches, including a three-set sweep over TCU in the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena. The Jayhawk offense was led by Ashley Smith and Morgan Christon, who each amassed 12 kills in the victory over the Horned Frogs.
Kansas continues to receive efficient performances from Sara Nielsen and Allie Nelson, who are the team leaders in assists per set and digs per set, respectively. Nielsen averages 8.91 assists per set and is 18th in career ranks at Kansas with 508 assists.
Nelson also continues her climb up the career rankings for digs and now is ninth in program history with 1,146 digs after her 16 dig performance against TCU.
Kansas State enters the match 6-12 overall and 1-5 in Big 12 play. The Wildcats opened conference play with a win over TCU, but dropped their five previous contests.
