After finishing off a perfect regular season for the second time in team history, the No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team opens the postseason on Tuesday night with FortScott.
Game time for Hutchinson’s opening-round Region VI Tournament game at the Sports Arena will be at 5:30 p.m.on Tuesday, March 6. The remaining seven first-round regional games at home sites across the state will be on Wednesday, but HCC’s Region VI opener was pushed up a day because the Class 3A state basketball tournament opens Wednesday at the Sports Arena.
All remaining seats not purchased by reserved season and HCC Foundation members go on sale at 8:30 a.m.on Monday morning at the Humiston Athletic Center in the Sports Arena.
This will be the fifth postseason meeting between Hutchinson and Fort Scott, the first since 2008. HCC leads the postseason series withFortScott3-1, winning all three first-round games. The only Fort Scott victory came in the 2002 Region VI semifinals at Salina.
HCC and Fort Scott have also played in 1976 and 2007.
The Jayhawk West champion Lady Dragons finished off a 29-0 regular season, the first perfect regular season since 1977, and ran the table in the Jayhawk West for the fourth time after a come-from-behind 58-49 victory over Seward County on Saturday night at the Sports Arena.
Fort Scott is 8-22 and the eighth seed from the Jayhawk East. Fort Scott dropped its third straight after falling to Labette 89-66 on Saturday night. The Greyhounds have dropped 7 of 8 games. The only victory over that stretch was a non-conference victory over Cottey Collegeon Feb. 20.
