Late Score Costs Hutchinson Monarchs game against Mulvane Patriots. Lose 8-6

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Thursday’s game against Mulvane Patriots was a heartbreaker for Hutchinson Monarchs, as they lost the lead late in an 8-6 defeat. Mulvane trailed 6-5 in the top of the eighth inning when Tanner Schuetz homered on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.

Taylor Barber collected four hits in defeat. Barber singled in the first, singled in the third, homered in the fifth, and doubled in the seventh.

Hutchinson Monarchs opened up scoring in the first inning, when Dylan Nedved tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

The Patriots knotted the game up at four in the top of the fourth inning, when Willie Ward singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Mulvane then scored three runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Mulvane Patriots came thanks to a single by Jackson Wilcox and a groundout by Patrick Bethea.

Wes Anderson led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Mulvane Patriots. He lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out ten and walking one.Dakota Rodd came on in relief and got the win.

Patrick Kudelka was on the pitcher’s mound for Hutchinson Monarchs. He surrendered five runs on four hits over five innings, striking out one. Zach Philbin and Noah Kelley entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and two innings respectively. Kelley took the loss for the Monarchs.

Hutchinson Monarchs smacked one home run on the day. Taylor Barber went yard in the fifth inning with a two run homer to give the Monarchs the lead.

Barber went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Hutchinson Monarchs in hits.
Mulvane collected nine hits on the day. Willie Ward went three for five for the Patriots.

Mulvane still with a shot to get into the Wildcard SLC Playoffs depending on the game the Newton Rebels are playing Friday night. Wichita Sluggers got by Newton on Thursday combined with the Mulvane win ties them up for the fourth and final spot in the Wildcard playoffs.

Hutchinson will have the number 2 seed in the SLC Wildcard playoffs and will either play at 5:00 or 7:30 pm on Monday night at Eck Stadium in Wichita.
