TOPEKA – A 19-year-old Leavenworth man has pleaded guilty to stealing 15 shotguns, rifles and pistols from a Jefferson County gun store.

Andrew Michael Amundsen pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and theft of firearms from a federally licensed dealer.

In his plea, Amundsen admitted that on May 18, 2011, he and another man drove to the Winchester Gun and Rock Shop, 500 3rd Street, in Winchester, Kan.

They parked nearby and walked to the shop, where Amundsen cut an exterior power line in an effort to disable a security alarm. He forced open a rear door while the other man stood guard outside. They carried away 15 firearms.

The next day, they sold some of the stolen firearms to two men in Leavenworth County in exchange for cash and electronic items. About a month later, Leavenworth County Sheriff’s officers recovered the stolen guns from the buyers.

Sentencing is set for April 6, and Amundsen faces a maximum penalty of 10-years in federal prison and a fine up to 250-thousand dollars.

Co-defendant Justin Edward Hornback, 20, of Tonganoxie, Kan., is awaiting trial.
