Less than a week until Hutchinson’s first-ever Half Marathon

Two Hutchinson organizations will host the first-ever half marathon in the city on Sunday, Sept. 25. Hutchinson Recreation Commission and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hutchinson are combining efforts to coordinate the Salt City Run for the Rocks, a benefit for both agencies. Proceeds from the race will go toward Hutch Rec youth scholarships and to the Boys and Girls Clubs.

To date, almost 300 participants have registered for the race. Those interested may register for $55 through Sept. 23. Registration increases to $65 after that and interested individuals may select one of two times to register: during the packet pick-up from 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 24 at Hutch Rec’s Downtown Office, 17 E. 1st; or day-of the event from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the starting line, located near the Salt City Splash parking lot in Carey Park. Registration prior to Sept. 23 may be done online at www.runfortherocks.com.

The half-marathon starts in the Salt City Splash employee parking lot and weaves along the Jim Martinez Trail to Rice Park, followed by visits in the Old Farm Estates and Hyde Park neighborhoods, the State Fairgrounds, and ending near the Kansas Comsosphere, Hutchinson Community College camps, and a lap on Gowans Stadium to the finish line.
