SALINA – The possibility of a scam came to the attention to the Saline County Sheriffs Office when a Gypsum man received a letter asking for 496-dollars for the “City of Concordia” but requested it be sent to a post office box in Carrollton, Texas, where American Municipal Services is located.

The Gypsum man did have a case in Concordia in 1998, and thought all costs and fines had been taken care of, but apparently they had not.

The man called a toll free number, but said answers to his questions were vague so he contacted the Sheriffs Office.

AMS gets a 33% fee for collecting outstanding money for various municipalities and was working for the City of Concordia.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski still encourages anyone who gets a letter that requests money to contact the agency that is seeking the money or to contact your local law enforcement agency to assist you.
