HAYS, Kan–A lighting strike in the early morning hours Wednesday caused a tank battery fire northeast of Hays.

According to Ellis County Rural Fire Director Dick Klaus, crews were dispatched to the report of a fire in the 2100 block of Locust Grove Road at 5:07 a.m.

Klaus said a gun barrel and two stock tanks were destroyed, although it was unknown how much oil was lost.

Three trucks, a tanker and two pumpers responded to the scene, and crews remained on scene until about 7:04 a.m.  There were no injuries.
