GREAT BEND – Barton County District Judge Hannalore Kitts heard motions Thursday in the Adam Longoria Capital Murder case.

Longoria is charged in the case for the murder of 14-year-old Alicia Debolt.

One motion discussed was filed on Wednesday by the defense to close proceedings of motions that are under seal in the case. The Attorney General’s Office agreed with the defense’s motion on Wednesday.

Media outlets filed motions that Kitts reviewed during the lunch break asking not to close the hearing. Kitts decided that if both the defense and the prosecution can’t come to an agreement on the sealed motions by next Friday, she will consider closing the hearing on those sealed motions.

Judge Kitts also heard a motion on hearsay statements are inadmissible evidence, like texts messages between the victim and Longoria, saying that the texts couldn’t definitely be attributed to Longoria or Debolt. The Attorney General’s Office argued that because the texts came from the defendant’s phone and he had access to it, it implies that he sent them. The AG’s office said the text messages parallel the defendant’s activity.

The judge denied the defendants motion to bar text messages as evidence, and will rule on the content of the texts later.

Longoria’s trial is scheduled for March 26.
