A two-point home loss to a now-Top 5 ranked team meant the Hutchinson Community College football
team slipped seven spots in this week’s NJCAA Football Rankings.
The Blue Dragons dropped a 16-14 decision to now-No. 5 Garden City on Saturday at Gowans Stadium. HCC was No. 6 heading into a contest against a third-straight nationally ranked foe. HCC knocked off No. 18 Coffeyville and No. 6 Iowa Western in the first two weeks of the season.
Hutchinson travels to Highland for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
Hutchinson has been ranked in 83 of the past 93 polls issued since 2008.
The Blue Dragons weren’t the only upset victim last week as 4 of the top 6 teams last week – Snow, Butler, Copiah-Lincoln and Hutchinson – all were defeated.
Arizona Western got 8 of 9 first-place votes and is the new No. 1 team in the rankings followed by Northwest Mississippi, Tyler, Lackawanna and Garden City.
Butler dropped 10 spots to No. 12 and Dodge City moved up one spot to No. 13.
