Reno and McPherson County 911 call centers were flooded with phone calls Tuesday morning after a loud explosion was heard and felt.
According to McPherson 911, Showalter Fireworks, located just north of the McPherson/ Reno County line on North Plum, was disposing of old fireworks they can no longer sell or use for public displays.
911 says they were caught off guard by the big bang because they weren’t notified.
Showalter says they do this on a regular basis, as required by the ATF, and why this one was loud enough to be heard and felt everywhere is unknown.
