Madeline ‘Louise’ Goodwin, 77, died July 8, 2019. She was born March 5, 1942, in San Diego, CA, to Lewis Willard and Pauline Gondolla (Young) Smith.
Louise received her GED from Nickerson High School in 1973. She worked as a machinist at Cessna before becoming a cook for Sunflower Day Care Center, Hutchinson. The children at the center fondly called Louise ‘Cooker’. Louise was a proud member of the IAM union. In addition, she enjoyed being a ticket taker at the Kansas State Fair and a member of TOPS. Faith was extremely important to Louise and she was a member of New Life Christian Church.
On November 2, 1958, she married James Byron Goodwin in Lyons. He died October 4, 2015.
Louise is survived by: sons, Jamie Goodwin and wife Sheryl Van Drie-Goodwin of Columbia, MO, Terry E. Goodwin of Norton; brother, Don Smith of Hutchinson; niece, Donna Chase; nephew, Richard Lee Smith; great-nieces, Brandi Chase, Samantha Willard, Carly Smith; great-nephew, Tanner Smith; granddaughter, Mischa (Terry’s daughter); caregiver, Sandra Ruble; dog, Teddy; and cat, Dolly.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Lee Roy Smith; granddaughter, Rachel Louise Goodwin; dog, Chloe; and cat, Thomas.
Graveside memorial service will be held in the fall. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
