A 22-year-old man accused of aggravated battery was in court Wednesday for a status hearing on the charges against him.

Aaron Brown has been formally charged with not only aggravated battery, but also possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The case starts when a Reno County Sheriff’s deputy was called to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center where he met with Brown’s step-brother who told him that the two had gotten into an argument and he was beat up. The two apparently live together.

He told the deputy he believes he was struck by a piece of wood and was knocked out. He say he woke up in a puddle of blood and with the help of some friends, took a shower to wash some of the blood off.

He says Brown then came back and tried to start fighting again, but it was broken up by friends. He then walked across the street to his parents home, who then took him to the hospital.

Brown then apparently started gathering his things and called his brothers mother for a ride. The deputy located him at that residence in the 7300 block of Back Acres. While being patted down, the deputy alleges he found pipe used to smoke marijuana.

Brown claims his brother kept coming at him and that’s why they kept fighting. He says his brother bit him on one of his fingers. He was also taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center by the deputy for treatment and did have a swollen hand and also had an abrasion to his right elbow.

Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen lowered his 8-thousand dollar bond to 5-thousand, and now that the formal charges have been filed, the case will be placed on a waiver-status docket in front of Judge Joe McCarville.
