SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 28-year-old man was jailed this week by South Hutchinson Police for a number of charges including aggravated battery, aggravated assault, abuse of a child and disorderly conduct. The arrest of Byron Banfield coming just after 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.

South Hutch PD responded to a disturbance call and made contact with a 15-year-old girl who told the officer she was beaten up with a lug nut wrench and stabbed her in the back with a key. She was also allegedly bitten on her left shoulder area. She also says she was struck on right elbow with what she described as a sword.

A neighbor also told police that he saw Banfield strike her in the face. He told the officer that Banfield left for about five minutes and came back with a claw hammer and duct tape. The neighbor along with his wife in fear of their safety wondering what he intended to do with the items he had with him. Banfield was apparently cussing at the teen during this altercation.

In court, he was advised of the possible charges and will be back in court on June 22. Bond was set at $35,100.

Banfield is on parole for the sale of drugs, aiding and abetting an aggravated assault, theft and criminal possession of a firearm. Those convictions out of Sedgwick and Butler counties According to the Department of Corrections website, they now have a warrant for him for a parole violation.
