HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A local man charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery and criminal restraint entered a plea to only one charge.

District Attorney Keith Schroeder says he amended the complaint and Preston Lewis pleaded guilty to felony criminal restraint while the original charges were dropped as a part of a plea agreement.

He was accused of holding his mother against her will, not letting her leave the house or call anyone, all while holding a knife. He did apparently let her text. She notified another person about the incident. That person called the police. Lewis also barricaded the doors.

Schroeder says he was under the influence of drugs and was paranoid that someone was going to hurt him and his mother.

The charge calls for some form of probation under state sentencing guidelines when sentencing occurs on Dec. 15. Schroeder says he was let out of jail on bond supervision and was taken to a local Oxford House. He was also ordered to have no contact with his mother.
