Man involved in stabbing incident formally charged

Derren Lovell 2

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 46-year-old man who was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery after he allegedly stabbed another man during an argument has been formally charged.

Derrin Lovell was arrested back on March 22 when police were called to the 500 block of East F on the report of a disturbance and discovered that the 43-year-old victim had been stabbed in the left forearm. The victim was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center where he was treated and given stitches.

But in court, Lovell argued that there is no case and doesn’t understand why he’s being charged with allegedly stabbing someone, saying there was no weapon.

Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen told him that she doesn’t know the evidence, only that the state has charged him.

Lovell asked for a reduction of the $5,000 bond, but because of his past criminal history, she denied the request and in fact raised the bond to $10,000

Also arrested was 46-year-old Lisa Mederos, who was arrested for a misdemeanor court of battery after she allegedly held a woman in a headlock until police arrived. Her bond in this case was lowered to $500.

The case against Lovell will now be placed on a waiver-status docket on April 20.
