A 42-year-old man made a first appearance Wednesday on charges associated with the sale of methamphetamine after he was arrested by police around 11:15 a-m, Tuesday morning.

Paul Salyer of 42 Sunset is facing possible charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell within a thousand feet of a school, possession of ecstasy, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no drug tax stamp.

Apparently his parole officer came to do a home visit and found drug paraphernalia in the home and that brought Hutchinson Police in and a search uncovered what police say was a sellers amount of drugs, along with the paraphernalia that indicates he was probably selling drugs. According to police, he lives within a thousand feet of Wiley Elementary School.

Salyer had just been paroled in May after serving time for drugs convictions out of Cowley and Butler Counties. But, he’s also served time for an aggravated assault and drug convictions here in Reno County going back to 2000, and a drug conviction in Sedgwick County in 1999.

Bond is the case is set at 29-thousand, 500-dollars which was not reduced by Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen, but even if he had, a warrant from the Kansas Department of Corrections indicates he could be sent back to prison to complete his sentence in the previous cases.

He’ll also be back in court no later then next Wednesday to allow the state time to file formal charges.
