HUTCHINSON, Kan.— It is the memorial weekend, a time to remember those who have given their lives for our country.

The memorial day service in Hutchinson will be held Monday morning starting at 9 a.m. at the Soldier and Sailors Monument located at the intersection at Walnut and 1^st Avenue. The service begins at 9 a.m. and will include the invocation by Pastor Jeff Slater and comments from Vice Mayor Jade Piros De Carvalho and the Chaplin and Auxiliary Chaplin of the American Legion. Color Guard will be provided by the Legion Riders. The service will then move out to the Penwell Gable cemetery at 11 a.m. Music will be played by the Municipal Band during the service along with the American Legion Color Guard presenting the colors. Mayor Cindy Proett will deliver the address, and the Legion will dedicate the new Serve and Protect Garden that is new to the cemetery.

As this memorial day approaches we also approach the 70^th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion of France.
