Started 44-years-ago, the Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale has been an annual event of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a relief organization formed in 1920.

It’s also an annual event that many here in South Central Kansas look forward to each year.

Officials tell us, some 70 Mennonite, Brethren in Christ, and Amish congregations in Kansas, and their friends, donate their gifts and services for this annual festival and benefit auction.

That includes some unusual items being sold this year including, a 1948 Packard, 1950 Chevy DeLux, 1948 Allis Chalmers Model C Tractor, 1953 John Deere Model B, 1945 Model B International Tractor, 2006 Kawasaki “Prairie”, Model John Deere Threshing Machine and Sport ZTR mower, among other items. That will be part of the General Auction on Saturday at 1 p-m.

This year, the “House Against Hunger,” is located in Wichita at 543 S. Lorraine. It is described as having 4-bedrooms, 3-bathrooms, a spacious open kitchen, oak woodwork, full finished basement, is handicap accessible, is also close to a community garden & playground, and they also are calling it maintenance-free living. The price is listed at $159,900. The money from the sale of this home will go towards the total of the relief sale.

But, probably the biggest draw each year is the Quilt Auction on Saturday. 100’s of quilts will be sold.

All proceeds from the sale are used to provide for material needs and community development in North America and across the world.

The Kansas Sale is but one of close to 40 relief sales that take place annually all across the USA and Canada.
