More details have emerged over the tragic death of a Maize Elementary School teacher over the weekend.

Jeanie Weve had grabbed a zipline and appeared to freeze as she jumped off, letting go of the handles and falling about 20-feet. Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson says there was no harness utilized, just handles to hold on to and that Weve just lost her grip.

Officers report that there were several safety measures in place, stabilizing wires, padding etc., and that it was just an unfortunate accident.

Weve was transported to Via Christi-St Frances Regional Medical Center in Wichita by ambulance and where she the died from injuries related to the fall.

As we had told on the Hutch Post, she had been named the Milken National Teacher of the year, last year through the Milken Foundation.

The accident occurred at a friends home at 1018 E. Silver Lake Road, Pretty Prairie, the residence of Matthew Goering. He was present during the time of the accident.
