HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The county continues to see revenues drop as the state phases out the mortgage registration tax, which counties have been able to collect over real estate transactions.

In May, the county collected $18,194. That was slightly above the April number, but well below the amount collected in May of 2016. The amount then was $22,885.

The county did collect a little more with the Recording Fee. Last month, the county collected $30,635. That is up from April, as well as May, of last year. Last year in May, they collected $26,741.

All things considered, county officials say they collected $14,000 less because of the decrease in the Mortgage Registration Tax.
