TOPEKA – Citing a spike in anti-worker policies being pushed in Kansas and other states around the nation, the Working Kansas Alliance, a coalition of Kansas working men and women newly formed in response to these attacks, said today that Kansas workers are uniting to defend working families being left behind by politicians and special interests.

“There is coordinated attack on working men and women going on all across America and right here in Kansas,” said Terry Forsyth, president of the Working Kansas Alliance. “This is a critical time for all working families in Kansas. We’re in the fight of our lives.”

Forsyth cited several anti-worker initiatives being advocated in the Kansas Legislature that threaten the rights of Kansas workers including: the prohibition of union members participating in political elections, far-reaching curtailment of public pensions, and the elimination of unemployment benefits and the state’s minimum wage law.

“As we saw in Ohio, initiatives that impede the ambitions of working people are rightfully viewed by voters as being too extreme. We believe Kansans will draw the same conclusions regarding the similar policies being pushed by the Governor and members of the Kansas Legislature,” Forsyth said.

“The Working Kansans Alliance will fight efforts to silence the voices of hard working men and women in Kansas. We will ensure that the concerns and interests of working Kansans are not left out of the debate in the Capitol. And we will hold politicians accountable when they jeopardize the future of workers and their families.”
