HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Larger rooms for easier access to patients are one of the many improvements made with the new ICU unit at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Joann Rivera is the Director of ICU at the hospital:

 

 

Rivira also talked about how important it was for the hospital to sit down with the ICU staff. This lead to gathering input from them as to what they wanted in the unit and what they felt was best for patients:

 

With a portable sonogram and X-ray machines, the ability to move around a patient has been made easier with larger rooms. All of the room’s monitors and treatment operations now hang from the ceiling on boom arms rather that coming out of the walls, giving 306 degree access to patients.
