New logo for the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament unveiled

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The NJCAA – the nation’s premier governing body for two-year tournamentcollegiate athletics – today unveiled a new and revamped logo for its Division I Men’s Basketball Championship hosted in Hutchinson, Kansas, since 1949 and affectionately known as ‘The Tournament’.

The logo redesign for ‘The Tournament’ was a project of a joint marketing committee formed at the request of the NJCAA after the 2016 championship. It included representatives from Hutchinson’s American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68, the Greater Hutchinson CVB and the NJCAA national office.

The professionally redesigned logo – along with secondary marks – was completed by Phoenix Design Works, based in New York City and highly respected for their work with over 200 universities and sporting events nationwide.

The logo redesign was a top priority for the marketing committee, with special emphasis on long-standing ‘The Tournament’ brand but with a new and bold design that signals a new era for one of the NJCAA’s premier championship events.

“With the renovated Sports Arena scheduled to be complete for the 2017 tournament, it was important to have a fresh look for one of our most high profile championship events,” said Mary Ellen Leicht, Executive Director of the NJCAA.

Full implementation of the new logo design will begin immediately.

New advertising opportunities have also been created as a result of the $29.5 million renovations to the Hutchinson Sports Arena, including on-court signage, video board and digital scoreboard recognition and more.  The new sponsorship packages are available to any business or organization interested and will be unveiled this month.

The new ‘The Tournament’ logo(s) are the property of the NJCAA and use of any mark of the Association without written consent is prohibited.
