After the Hutchinson City Council back in January approved the purchase of 13-Chevy Tahoes for the Hutchinson Police Department at a cost of 27-thousand, 644-dollars per vehicle, we’re now starting see some of those vehicles on city streets.

The police department has been driving 2009 Crown Victoria’s, which was favored by law enforcement for its proven dependability and functionality, but Ford is no longer offering those vehicles.

After an extensive review of other potential vehicles, they decided on the purchase of 13 Tahoes because of there need for space in police vehicles. They need to be able to fit all the equipment used by police, so they are arms length of the officers.

They also found that the Tahoe’s actually get better gas mileage then the Crown Vic’s. They get 14-miles-per-gallon in the city, compared with 15-miles-per-gallon for the Tahoes.

You will also notice new graphics on the vehicles with a black and white color and gold colors added in.

Expect to see more of these vehicles on the street in the coming days.
