A new report from the Kansas Health Institute took an in-depth look at information from the U.S. Census Bureau on Kansans and health insurance coverage.

Key points of the Annual Insurance Update 2012 include, about 365,000 Kansans, or 13.1 percent, are uninsured. The Kansas rate is much lower than the national rate, which was 16.0 percent in 2010-2011.

Uninsured rates for Kansans younger than 65 vary significantly by county.

The highest in our area was Stafford County at 23.1%, followed by Rice County at 18.2%, Pratt County at 18% and Sedgwick County at 17.1%.

The lowest was McPherson County at 12.5%.

Reno County matched Kingman County at 15.1%, with Harvey County at 15.1%.

Employment-based insurance continues to be the most common source of coverage for Kansans
