County Commission Chairman James Schlickau smiles after he lays a little cement after the new capsule was placed in the cornerstone

It was back in September when the time capsule from 100-years ago was removed from the cornerstone of Memorial Hall.

On Friday, a new capsule was placed back into that very same cornerstone after a ceremony on the east side of the Memorial Hall, that will remain in the building for another 100-years.

The city of Hutchinson, the Landsmarks Commission, the Reno County Museum and Downtown Hutchinson were sponsors of the event Friday and again brought back the same old costumes and pageantry that locals enjoyed back in September.

Back in September when the old capsule was removed, it included a reenactment of the event 100-years ago when President William H. Taft helped place the time-capsule inside the corner stone then.

The event Friday included a welcome speech by Mayor Dave Razo, introductions and a history of the project by Landmarks Commission Chairman, Mitch Brown, and a Rededication and Consecration Ceremony by the Grand Lodge of the Masons of Kansas.

The Museum Exhibit, “Hail to the Hall”, displaying the items from the historic time capsule were also be opened to the public after the ceremony.
