HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Nickerson man who was arrested after he led law enforcement on a chase back on June 28, 2015, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday in that case and one other.

In the first case, Brandon Sutton is charged with felony flee and elude, interference with law enforcement and a couple of traffic charges.

The chase started when Deputy Jack Trussell made contact with his parents in regard to a welfare check. Sutton had contacted his family, stating that he had been in a motorcycle accident, but was unsure where he was.

The accident had reportedly occurred some time overnight. As Deputy Trussell was leaving Nickerson on K-14, he observed a motorcycle heading toward Nickerson and believed it to be Sutton. When he attempted to stop the motorcycle, the chase ensued. The chase went north on Riverton Road to 88th and then into the city of Nickerson, where it ended.

He was transported by Reno County EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for injuries that occurred in the motorcycle accident the previous night. He was then taken into custody on the new charges as well as a warrant on a probation violation.

In the other case, he’s charged with felony theft for stealing from Walmart. It becomes a felony because he has two other priors for stealing.

Because he waived the hearing, he’ll face arraignment in early June.
