District Judge Trish Rose granted a defense request that a interpreter being allowed when a drug case for a Nickerson man goes to trial.

Armando Corral is accused of marijuana distribution charges where the state says he was using the telephone on a number of occasions to make the drug transactions including the sale of marijuana. In at least one case, he is accused of selling the pot to an undercover KBI agent. The state has also charged him with multiple counts of no drug tax stamp. The alleged crimes are said to have began on September 28, 2004 and the last one occurring on October 23, 2006.

The state had argued that they believe Corral speaks English fine, and that this has not been an issue as this case has proceeded, but in the end Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton agreeing. He told us afterwards, he didn’t want this raised on appeal, should the defendant be convicted.

The case was expected to go to trial back in May, but was continued because of the change of lawyers. The new trial is set for September 27 in front of Judge Trish Rose.
