NICKERSON, Kan. — The steering committee addressing the future needs of the Nickerson USD 309 School District has decided more study needs to be done before presenting any plans for a facilities improvement bond issue. The decision was made Monday night to hold another meeting and study session Nov. 28. The committee was originally going to present its ideas to the school board on that date. The study session will now be held instead.

Superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson says they have decided that, instead of looking at the needs as a whole, they want to break down the priorities of each separate facility in an effort to get the most out of their potential dollars.

Right now, Johnson says the district would be looking at a major bond issue if all of the needs and wants were put into place with a price tag hovering around $55 million. A recent survey revealed that about 35 percent of district residents would consider a bond issue that large, but many more were in favor of something in the $20 million to $40 million range.

The committee now hopes to have a presentation for the school board by the December meeting.
