The Haven USD-312 School Board approved relocating the Pleasant View Academy to Mt Hope during a special meeting Monday night in Haven.

After more than 2 hours of discussion and an executive session the board approved several changes that will allow at least a portion of the Mt Hope school to open again. The change will mean that all Pleasant view students in K-8 will relocate to the Kids Depot in Mt Hope. That is the smaller of the two schools in the Sedgwick County community that are a part of the USD-312 district.

Other changes approved Monday include relocating the K-12 virtual school to the districts building in partridge and eliminating the charter school for high school students. The district had been trying to get charter status for the Mt Hope school in hopes of attracting students from outside the district but could not gain approval from the state board. So they decided to move the charter school from Pleasantview instead.

Students or families who may not want to make the move can continue the classes through the virtual school or go back to their regular schools. Buses normally take students to Pleasantview and that will be the case of the transfer to Mt Hope.

The schools in Mt hope were closed due to budget cuts several years ago and the district has been trying to find a way to utilize the buildings since then.
