NEWTON – As expected a North Newton man entered guilty pleas to an amended complaint in one case while the state dropped the other.
28-year-old Chad Carr entered pleas to 2nd degree murder, three counts of aggravated battery, and one count of abuse of a child. He had been charged with felony first degree murder.
Carr is charged in the case for the death of 19-month-old, “Vincent Hill,” while a separate case of sexual exploitation of a child was dropped as part of the plea agreement with the state.
Also as part of the agreement, Carr has also agreed to except consecutive sentencing and the aggravated sentence on each count, for a total of 241-months, or 20-years in prison.
Autopsy information indicates the child died from complications of multiple blunt-force trauma combined with oxygen deprivation to the brain from suffocation or asphyxiation. But, County Attorney David Yoder said the child also suffered numerous broken bones, which included a broken leg and a broken collar bone.
The biological father of the Vincent Hill spoke to the media and says Thursday’s plea will not bring his child back. Ricky Hill saying he won’t see his child go to prom or anything else. He also is becoming an advocate to bring attention to child abuse and wonders why there isn’t more information in the media on this.
The 24-year-old Peabody man says you see public service announcements over animal abuse, and starving kids overseas, but not much about child abuse. He even got a tattoo on his neck of a green ribbon to bring attention to child abuse and to remember his son.
The crime in the case occurring in North Newton and Police Chief Ray Dean Classen says this is the worst crime ever in that city.
The mother of the child Katheryn Nycole Dale was sentenced to 41-months in prison back in September of last year for one count of abuse of a child, and one count of aggravated child endangerment.
Carr remains jailed and sentencing in the case is set for January 17.
