HUTCHINSON, Kan. — When the Buhler School District built a new elementary school on 43rd, two others were closed. Prosperity on North Plum and Obee on East 4th were both closed.
The district was able to sell Prosperity School, but Obee is still sitting vacant. Buhler School Superintendent Mike Berblinger says the district is considering using that building as a daycare.
He says there is a need in the community for such a facility:
He says it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to convert a grade school into a daycare, but admits they would need some financial backing:
If the school is converted into a community daycare, would it still be a Buhler School District facility? Berblinger answered this way:
The facility is somewhat off the beaten path. Berblinger does not see the distance as an issue:
The idea is only being studied at this point, but the district believes it would be a great use of that facility.
