HUTCHINSON, Kan. – One of two people arrested in association with the theft a large amount of copper from various businesses and private individuals appeared via-video in court Wednesday morning where she attempted to get her bond lowered.

28-year-old Robin Davis asked for the reduction saying she needed to get out of jail to earn some money, however the state was opposed because of the nature of the charges. Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen agreed and refused to lower the $40,000. bond. He also assigned the Regional Public Defenders Office to represent her.

Davis along with 30-year-old Anthony Treaster are both charged with felony theft for stealing copper valued between $25,000, but less then $100,000. The crimes allegedly occurring between February 24, and April 2. They’re accused of stealing copper from New Smoke, Reno County Head Start, the Salvation Army, L.R Boyd & Company, Old Mission Heritage Funeral Home, Eggers Investments and Kelly J. Graber. Both are also charged with conspiracy to commit theft.

But, Davis is also charged with 5-counts of making false information for taking copper to Midwest Iron and Metal in February and March of this year.

Treaster is also charged with non-residential burglary for allegedly breaking into the old Bett’s Bakery to 120 East 3rd.

Treaster has prior convictions for possession of drugs and criminal possession of weapons for cases going back to 2011.

Both of their cases will now move to waiver-status dockets later this month.
