UPDATE: One-vehicle accident seriously injures two

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A one-vehicle accident injured five people Wednesday afternoon, two of them reported to be in serious condition.

Law Enforcement and Reno County EMS were dispatched to an area near 43rd and Rayl Road just before 1 p.m. after the pickup the five were in went off the road and rolled.

When sheriff deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol units arrived on the scene, they discovered two of the occupants were laying in the roadway with serious injuries. Medical aid was provided until EMS and Fire units arrived.

Two of the occupants were transported to Wichita Hospitals by two different helicopters with serious injuries.

One more was taken by EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with what appeared to be minor injuries. Two others were able to walk away from the accident.

Eighteen-year-old Dawson L. Lehman told deputies he was west bound on 43rd from Rayl Road and lost control of the vehicle, went into the ditch, and rolled. The vehicle came to a stop in a field on the north side of 43rd Avenue.

The Sheriff’s Department says the accident remains under investigation.

Names of the injured have not been released, however, all were said to be under the age of 18.
