HUTCHINSON, Kan. — An online program used by Hutchinson USD 308 is helping students push through learning roadblocks. The program, i-Ready, is being used at the elementary level to help students improve beyond their grade levels in math studies.

Sheena Wyatt with curriculum and instruction for the district talks about the program:

 

 

Wyatt says i-Ready uses assessments for each student and then provides solutions that are implemented by the teacher to help each student reach their goal, whether that be catching up or surpassing their current grade level:

 

There is also a little competition among the schools involved. Math Miners is a program that connects with the mining industry in Hutchinson. Wyatt says the competition adds a little more incentive for students to reach their goals:

 

Under the program, the number of students at grade level or better has increased by 17 percent, while the number of students falling two or more grades behind in math has decreased by 12 percent.
