Our Lady celebrating 70 years at the fair

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It’s been a part of the Kansas State Fair for 70 years, provides great Mexican food and has helped many in need.

Our Lady of Guadalupe was recognized this week for its seven decades of service and great food at the fair. It all started in 1947 with a tent and a dirt floor where the church ran a food stand. It moved into a separate building soon after and eventually ended up as a main fixture in Cottonwood Court. The group also has a taco trailer near the beer garden. The group has about 50-60 volunteers each day to deal with the long lines that are a norm at the eatery.

Not only do they provide good food, but all proceeds from the Fair Mart go to the St Rosa Lima Fund, which provides assistance for families who are in need of help with utilities or in crisis.
